Mazda jumps on the video game bandwagon with the RX-Vision GT3
After Jaguar, Lamborghini and a few others, Mazda has designed its own virtual car for a video game series. Meet the RX-Vision GT3, the PC-only supercar!
What you see here is essentially the only sketch of the vehicle available to date. It looks inspired by the RX-Vision Concept demonstrated four years ago (see the video). It comes designed by the same Ikuo Maeda who produced that concept, as well as the production-issue Mazda RX-8. His father, Matsaburo Maeda, designed the legendary RX-7 series.
The virtual sports car comes powered by a mysterious ‘all-new SkyActive-R’ engine. Perhaps Mazda hints at an electrified powertrain with a rotary motor used as a range extender. The company has been hinting at the viability of such configuration for a long time now. The designer claims the engine is located between the axles closer to the front one, but the weight is still distributed 48:52 towards the real axle.
The Mazda RX-Vision GT3 will hit the screens next year. It remains unknown whether the company will ever implement any of its features in real-life cars.
